5.0 out of 5 stars Finding yourself within a horse

While I am clearly not the “horse person“ of the caliber of the author, I nonetheless loved the story as it related to life blended with sacrifice to find that perfect horse to do an epic race. Clearly, as the author/equestrian matured, and found her role in her life, It paralleled her relationship with an extraordinary horse, allowing them to accomplish what only a few may enjoy, completing the Tevis cup.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars A HORSE LOVER'S PARADISE

If you are a horse lover, this book is for you. If you are an adventurer at heart, this book is for you. This book tells more than just the story of one inspiring horse. It also tells that story of an inspiring, adventurous modern woman. The horses in this book are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. And the story told is as rich and complex as the woman who lived the adventures described in this book.

What animals in your life changed it for the better?

Enjoy these stories of how horses can help you put your big girl (or boy) panties on, not play the victim and feel sorry for yourself, and just do it! This semi memoir is all about how animals influence us to better ourselves and truly experience the world around us and right in our backyards. One minute you could be in heavy traffic driving through San Jose and the next minute, riding high in the mountains of Mount Hamilton without a single person in sight.

Are You Balanced?

I spent a lot of life being unbalanced. But every time I was near a horse, this feeling of calm serenity overcame me. They gave me balance. They taught me life lessons. I learned how to focus on the task at hand and empower myself with the help of these majestic beasts.

Behind the Scenes

Two weeks after the Tevis Cup, I drove to Santa Ynez to meet the Metz’s, who owned Simeon Shai, the sire of Hot Wheelz. We became good friends. They hired me to photograph most of their horses and gave me a colt named Najm El Nil. I renamed him Groovy, and he became Hot Wheelz’s best friend. Our pure black miniature horse, Johnny Cash, arrived a few years later. His job was to keep Finn company during our horse camping trips. After Finn left us, Donkey Oti came to keep Johnny Cash and Jasper (our new baby Arabian) company. Hot Wheelz loves his new herd of quirky, funny-looking equines.
